CTA’s New Mentoring Program

By Ulrike Anderson
CITA Membership Coordinator

Following in the ATA’s footsteps, CITA is launching its own mentoring program in 2018.

The idea of a mentoring program had been tossed around between the board and several long-term members for quite some time. As membership continued to grow, and we experienced an influx of new student members, the possibility of such a program became a necessity.

The new CTA program is specifically designed to be highly flexible and intended to be rewarding to both mentor and mentee. The infographic below illustrates just what we hope each side will take from the experience.

As our own Kathy DiCenzo reminisces, “I have found mentoring over the last 11-12 years to be quite rewarding. I still hear from and run into people I’ve mentored and it is always fabulous!”

Here are some more thoughts on mentoring, from other greats across different disciplines:

  • “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” — Winston Churchill
  • “A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” — Oprah Winfrey
  • “What I think the mentor gets is the great satisfaction of helping somebody along, helping somebody take advantage of an opportunity that maybe he or she did not have.” — Clint Eastwood
  • “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” — Isaac Newton
  • “In order to be a mentor, and an effective one, one must care. You must care. You don’t have to know how many square miles are in Idaho, you don’t need to know what is the chemical makeup of chemistry, or of blood or water. Know what you know and care about the person, care about what you know and care about the person you’re sharing with.” — Maya Angelou

If you’re feeling inspired, please consider joining the program by completing the respective form on the CTA website.

Applications are due December 1st, 2017.
